For Many Packers, US-Bred Pigs Only Required

Beginning this spring, US born and raised hogs will only be processed by some pork packers, including Smithfield Foods, the world's largest pork producer reports Farming UK.

Many of the country's feeder pigs are born and raised in Canada, including those raised on farms in Iowa. There is speculation that the cash market will split, with Canadian hogs sold at a discount. The COOL law is blamed for the possible split.
